PUPILS in schools in Eden took part in a Christmas card competition organised by Eden Housing Association (EHA) and winners were announced at special school assemblies.

The youngsters were required to create a design which could be used as a Christmas card for the association.

Schools in the Eden district were invited to take part and, in total, there were more than 185 entries.

The overall winner was Rachel Grierson, of Skelton School, whose design is at the printers and is being turned into the Eden Housing Association 2012 Christmas card.

Adele Woof, the association’s governance and support co-ordinator, said: “We were very pleased to see several primary and secondary schools taking part and were delighted at the level of creativity we saw.

“Winners came from schools right across the district from High Hesket and Skelton primary schools and Kirkby Stephen Grammar School. Congratulations to Rachel on her winning design.

“The standard was very impressive this year and another design also caught the eye of the judges. The panel of judges felt the picture created by Imogen Rolfe, also from Skelton School, would be perfect for the association’s Christmas magazine, which is called Viewpoint. “This is sent to around 3,000 homes across Cumbria. Her lovely robin design will feature on the front cover.”

Each of the category winners received vouchers to spend in Argos and because Rachel Grierson was the overall winner, Skelton School also received a cheque for £50.

The age group winners were: Under-7: Zoe Nelson, High Hesket Primary School; 7-11: Rachel Grierson, Skelton School; 12-16: Rebekah Walsh, Kirkby Stephen Grammar School.
