Welcome to Class 3's page.
Year 3 is the first year of key stage 2. It is a really important year for your child to learn to become more independent in their school routine, beginning with arriving to the classroom independently on a morning and organising themselves for the day. Your support with this is greatly appreciated!
We will have lots of exciting things to look forward to throughout the year, including class trips, class performances and some special visits. I hope your children enjoy the year as much as I'm sure I will!
Below is some information regarding common topics of question. I hope you find this useful but please do come to see me should you have any questions at all.
Year 3 is the first year where, if you wish for your child to have a snack during their morning break, they are asked to bring their own. In support of our whole school policy, children are asked to bring fruit or vegetables only as part of this snack. Thank you for your cooperation with this.
Children will receive a new set of spellings on a Monday. They will rehearse these through various activities throughout the week in school but it would be fantastic if they could practise these at home too. Children will sit a spelling test the following Monday on these before being given a new set to learn.
It would be fantastic to see the children using their personalised Maths Whizz accounts for between 20 to 30 minutes per week. If the children do not have access to the internet to enable them to do this, they are more than welcome to use the school computers during a playtime.
The children will also take part in regular guided reading sessions and so will need their reading books and reading records in school everyday. Every child will have a reading book aimed specifically at their reading level which they should bring home each night and read as often as possible. If accessing Accelerated Reader, the children can then quiz on these books in school time.
PE days will change throughout the term as our sport coach and gym and swim work on a rotation system. This term, PE days will be Tuesdays and Fridays.
